SG72: Yndling - Mood Booster [LP]
Yndling is the dream pop project of Norwegian musician Silje Espevik. Although she draws inspiration from acts such as Beach House, Men I Trust, and Cocteau Twins, Espevik has a sound all her own, amalgamating a cinematic aura and an earnest undertone; her instrumentals, silky and sultry, provide a soft layer of foundation for her almost gossamer vocals, the equivalent of a feather against fleece.
The patient “Mood Booster” and “Never As Easy (ft. Petite Amie)" provide an evocative expanse of yearning; “Make Me Want You” and “Could You Imagine?” are as electrifying as they are hypnagogic, soundtracking the hyper-cogent state between sleep and wakefulness. There are also moments of playful intensity, such as “Monopoly” and “Careful,” slices of futuristic bubblegum pop that cut through the gauzy haziness. Ultimately, Mood Booster is a delicate, yet stunningly cohesive collection of tracks that, like a disco ball, appear to shine from every angle.
