SG90: Exiter - I Am What The Dog Brought In [EP]

Following the release of their stunning debut Temporary Empty, Exiter has returned with an ethereal and expansive new EP entitled I Am What The Dog Brought In. Formed in 2024 by the former members of dream pop group Shimmertraps, the Seattle-based group meticulously weaves together alternative rock, electronica, and slowcore, resulting in a unique, multi-dimensional sound that succeeds in making even the most familiar moments and sensations feel mysteriously transcendent.

Throughout the EP’s three tracks, there is an intimate oscillation between light and shadow that, in its thoughtful intention, appears akin to a complex waltz; the group effortlessly switches from jagged to soft to glitchy to silky, and often, all in the same track. The haunting, yet vulnerable “I Am What the Dog Brought In” is a slow, textured melody that feels heavy, lived-in; the short, percussion-led tune “Bike” includes a bit more levity. “Draw A Star,” with teardrop-like background effects and perfectly echoed vocals that later bursts into heavy, industrial-tinged noise rock, is perhaps the most unpredictable out of the three, but also the most lush - the tension between the first and second half of the track perfectly expresses Exiter’s overall finesse in balancing the most dynamic aspects of lofi rock.
