SG89: Layzi - if i never go outside [EP]

With music that stands resilient in spite of its gorgeous fragility, Layzi’s compositions have consistently been examples of soft, yet intelligent bedroom pop. Since her 2021 debut EP 'what’s left to lose', the Boston-based artist has consistently been releasing singles and EPs, complete with her earnest, ethereal vocals at the forefront. Her most recent EP, if i never go outside, is a dreamy triptych; its three tracks appear as a deliberate gesture to the inherent strength that lies in vulnerability.

The grunge-inspired guitar of “iingo” is a stunning foundation to her reverb-heavy vocals, while the spacey, sometimes glitchy synth of “bored” offsets the embedded narrative of intense self-awareness. By the stark instrumental swells of “get in control,” it's abundantly clear that these tracks all speak to one another seamlessly; in fact, they may even be listened to as a perpetual loop, mimicking the liminal expanse of heart-rending rumination.
