SG85: Exiter - Temporary Empty [LP]

Formed in 2024 by the former members of dream pop group Shimmertraps, Seattle-based group Exiter possesses a unique aura that is at once grounded and restless in both its composition and vocals alike. Exploring the propagative liminal space between alternative rock, electronic, and slowcore, their debut Temporary Empty effortlessly stitches together those gaps in-between thoughts, bringing together the organized chaos of those intimate, yet complex moments that can only be felt and not entirely explained.
Although there is a sense of constant movement and transformation in every track, it is never in a straight line; for instance, the piano-driven “Option Shift Drag” is almost jazz-like in its arrangement, pulling from various sonic threads to weave together a tranquil, yet intricate tapestry that changes direction as unpredictably and beautifully as a summer’s breeze. “Flood” and “Death Star,” on the other hand, both feel remarkably cerebral, textured, and almost visceral in the way they feel intensely lived-in, close to the bone. The grungy “How/Copy” seamlessly bleeds into the multi-faceted, guitar-led closer “Sobbing Mortal Support,” bringing all these elements together into a gorgeous recapitulation of what seems to be Temporary Empty’s main intention: transcending the familiar.
