SG82: Pale - Nights [EP]
Whether from the upbeat, gorgeously atmospheric synth or the echoed, intimate nature of its vocals, Nights, the debut EP from Pale, beautifully pays homage to its title. Although only four tracks, the EP offers a lush, expansive take on dream pop, proving that softness can be thrilling, even powerful.
Opener “Dreaming,” housing a repeated lamentation, is like a breath of fresh air, while the calm vocals of “Addict” and the delicate synth flicker of “Not in Love” provide a subtler, almost shadowy contrast. The stunning closer “Forever,” true to its name, seems to stretch endlessly, amalgamating and balancing the sounds that came before to provide an earnest, vulnerable, yet fervid take on love and the lack thereof.
