SG70: Sara Devoe - scared of the dark [EP]
Sara Devoe is a Brooklyn-based indie artist. She began releasing music during the pandemic, sharing her excellent debut EP 'harsh' in November 2021. Her most recent EP, scared of the dark, released in the summer of 2024, is a wonderful continuation of her amalgamated dream pop and grunge rock approach, complete with dark shuddering synths and sharp, radiant flourishes. As a result, the sound evokes a soft, yet smoky atmosphere, a mix of light and shadows.
Tracks like “why am i like this” and “cindy” are soft and hazy, with a robust cinematic aura; "sleep with me” and “my old room,” exhilaratingly upbeat, encapsulate a bright, vivid intensity that seems to glow from the inside out. But ultimately, the album shines in moments, like in “the worst person in the world,” where the tracks reveal, either subtly or explicitly, their inner vulnerability and honesty.
