SG59: Phantom Youth - Slide Back [EP]
Phantom Youth - the side project of Will Evans (Stray Fossa) - is a dream pop venture based out of Munich, Germany. Slightly darkened and moody, and yet at times light, bright, and jangly, the tracks on Slide Back, Evans’s first EP for Spirit Goth, gesture towards a late 80’s/early 90’s-inspired cinematic nostalgia, with an added emphasis on texture and atmosphere.
Opener “Life Waits For Nothing” and “1999” are like a step out of time, yet its melodies keep the listener grounded, while “Steal The Air” and closer and title track “Slide Back” retreat fully into the haziness of reverie and the strange solitude of daydream. Overall, the EP is cohesive and full, with tracks that are due multiple listens in order to fully immerse yourself within their world.
